Things I Know: My Boy is Growing Up Far Too Fast!

August 5, 2011

Happy Friday to you. Once again I am here to join Shae and tell you all what I know.

With my youngest turning 2 next week, I realise he is growing up too fast. He really is.

This week I know that

– if you think you are clever buying a big boy bed for your son before he is two, 4 days before you are due to pick it up he decides to climb out of his cot and not stay in it for nap time. Feeling not so clever now.

– now he is in a big boy bed he doesn’t like nap time. This mumma is not ready for no nap time.

– said toddler is all of a sudden fiercely independent. He has to brush his own teeth, there are tears if mummy or daddy even dare to try and help.

– he now sits on a normal chair at the table, he has to sit next to mummy and feed himself. There is food going everywhere. So fun.

– he is chattering. It is so cute, he gazes into your eyes and tells you the most interesting things. Of course I don’t understand a word of it but it is the cutest thing ever.

Argh it is far too much growing up all of a sudden for me. Slow down my baby boy, slow down a little please!

What do you know?

    Beautiful.

They do grow up all too quickly don’t they? I look at my 8 year old and see the baby still… bittersweet.

They really do grow up so fast!

Don’t I know it. I wrote a post about this a short while ago (http://mixedgems.wordpress.com/2011/07/04/wanting-them-to-grow-then-again-maybe-not/). My little girl is 29 months tomorrow. She’s becoming more independent, yet at the same time, there is still vulnerability. Hubby and I marvel at some of our conversations with her and her behaviour at times. She seems to grown up and we forget that she’s not even two and a half. So when she behaves her age, as she inevitably does it can be a surprise. At the moment, we are dealing with surprises every day. It keeps us on our toes. Both proud to see her grow and a little sad too.

It goes awfully quick, doesn’t it? My baby is turning 3 tomorrow. I’m excited for the future but a little sad too.

Ella was exactly the same with day sleeps – they went out the window as soon as the big bed came along!
On the toothy peg front, I did a video last week showing how Ella and I brush her teeth. Not sure if it will help, but it’s worth a try!! All the best with it. xx

I’m lamenting how fast my 15 m.o is growing up too. She has recently discovered the fun of climbing and i got the shock of my life when i found her standing up on the kiddie table last night! I’m just trying to soak it all up as much as I can while it lasts…they are so beautiful at this age.

The fierce independence is both so wonderful and so frustrating, but, don’t worry too much. Miss 4 likes to swing between absolutely independent then completely useless and dependent.

And if you were still getting naps at almost two then I am very jealous! Miss 4 was never a napper 😦

I know you are absolutely spot on – they do grow up too fast… and I know that almost every mum i know feels the same way 🙂
