Now is Good and Won’t Back Down DVD Reviews and Giveaway! *closed*

April 17, 2013

It’s been awhile since I have reviewed DVD’s and those ones I have done in the past have been Disney Kids movies. So when the chance came to review some more grown up movies I took it up.

Now is Good

Now is Good

I was worried it would be a very sad movie, as it’s about a 17 year old girl with leukemia, Since being a parent I tend to avoid anything to do with kids and serious illnesses.  This movie wasn’t negative like that, it was sweet and there was no real sadness until the end of the movie.

Dakota Fanning played the main character of the movie and she played the part well I thought, it was an easy to watch movie that made me think a little too. It’s rated M.

Won’t Back Down

Won't Back Down

This movie is an inspiring story about 2 women who took on the school system as they were unhappy with government bureaucracy about the way a certain school was ran. It is based on a true event so I think I liked it even more for that.

I love it when people try and change a seemingly impossible task to try and better lives of others and in this case, lives of children. Won’t Back Down is a great movie showing others they can certainly get things changed, it just takes persistence and hard work. This movie is rated PG.

Both DVD’s are now available on Blu-ray for $42.95 and DVD for $36.95 at all the usual retail outlets.

Luckily for one of my readers I have one copy each of the movies on DVD to give away!

I went on a double date to see Oblivion, as much as I don’t really like Tom Cruise, it was great to see a movie without kids that wasn’t a cartoon or animated!

I haven’t been to the movies in ages I’m afraid…but I did see Skyfall on DvD on the weekend. It was Ok, but I prefer the older Bond movies & Bonds like Sean Connory & Roger Moore!

I picked up a copy of ET at the supermarket the other day, I was so excited to watch it as I thought it was the best movie ever when I was a kid, unfortunately I think my tastes have changes, it was pretty bad.

I actually can’t really remember, it has been forever!!!! I think it was Twilight, which was ok, but I liked the book much better! I am very glad that I like the majority of kids movies, the new one The Croods at the movies was very good, took the kids on the school holidays…

The latest movie I watched was at the cinema and is called “Rust and Bones”. It’s a French movie with my favourite French actress Marion Cotillard. The story was quite controversial and a little sad, I cried a few times! Beautiful movie though.

The last movie I watched was LES MISERABLE at the cinema. I cried my heart out. There were a few light & very sweet moments, but basically I cried my heart out. It was cathartic actually. I came out feeling so emotionally drained, but the better for it.

    A must see movie!!

Last film I watched was the documentary The Queen of Versailles. I loved it. It’s fascinating to see how not only the other half live but also how blind they are to the struggles everyday people struggle with every day!

No childcare options here so haven’t actually been in a cinema for while! But, we do watch DVDs and the last one I saw was the day before yesterday – Bel Ami. I didn’t like it at all! I think the problem was that the young Robert Whatsisname, who I understand to be a raging heartthrob is just too *young* for the to take him seriously! I don’t find him attractive at all and all the time he was sh*gging (scuse my French) Uma Therman I just couldn’t stop thinking how crazy it must have been for him to be snogging etc the actress from Pulp Fiction! It was so distracting!

Anyways that was my take. And ok, I confess, the reason is probably cos….I am 40 next year. It’s just a number tho!! Uh-huh that’s what all of us end up saying 😉

I can’t remember the last time I watched a movie for myself, the closest I come is watching Gossip Girl on DVD which is a series I really like.

I went to see Identity Thief thinking i would have a great laugh without the kids only to be left a bit disappointed i would probably have had more fun taking the kids to a family movie but at least i got some alone time.

I watched The Hunger Games this past weekend. It’d been a long time since I’d had time to sit down and have a bit of ‘me time’, let alone watch a whole movie uninterrupted, so I was in bliss. It is a fantastic film with drama, action and romance, with a bit of Liam Hemsworth (hubba hubba – lol!) – couldn’t fault it at all!

I saw ‘Raiders of the Lost Ark’ as a cult classic showing at Dendy Cinemas. I have only ever seen it on video and seeing it on the big screen was so fun and showed much more detail. On top of a great movie, the walnut and honey choc top was amazing. It was a perfect date night!

The last movie I saw was Lawless. I really enjoyed it. I didn’t realise just what a great actor Guy Pearce is. He gave an outstanding performance in this movie.

I saw ‘Warm Bodies’ on the weekend, and I really loved it. I know it seems a little lame, but it was just the right sort of unplayed humour that I love. Admittedly, I don’t have kids, so everything I watch is ‘for me’! And I saw a great DVD ‘Unthinkable’ about a nuclear bomb threat in the US, don’t know why it captured me so much.

Last movie I saw at the cinema was Magic Mike. I took my 72 year old Mum along as well – she reckons she enjoyed it and I think she did because she kept metioning the nice looking bodies!
